To start with, the best way is to be realistic about yourself. Don’t set your goals too high, or you’ll fall into a cycle of guilt and disappointment that lowers your motivation to quit.

But when you find yourself craving a cigarette, take a time out and begin taking slow, deep breaths. Many smokers don’t realize that deep breathing is part of the addiction of smoking.

Using this exercise can “mimic” the act of smoking, decreasing the urge to actually light up.
