Dear Expert:
Due to my early and late hours at work, I am lucky if I have 45 minutes to work out in a day. What is the best way to make use of my little bit of time at the gym? I want to stay toned, but at the same time I know I need aerobic activity on a daily basis. Should I be concentrating on one over the other, or should I still attempt to combine both but for a much shorter period of time?
Answer:
On the days on which you are not doing your weight training, extend your cardiovascular exercise to 35 to 40 minutes, followed by five minutes of stretching.
Relative to your weight-training exercises, pick four to six exercises that target your major muscle groups; for example, try the seated row, seated chest press, shoulder press, leg press, bicep curl and tricep pressdown. Finish the routine with abdominal curls. Perform one good set of eight to 12 repetitions per exercise.
